Mr. Alhaj Sayed Karim Hashemi, Chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment(ACCI), met with some Chinese experts specializing in the construction of oil refineries.
At the beginning of the meeting, Mr. Hashemi expressed his satisfaction with the interest shown by Chinese investors in investing in Afghanistan and emphasized that the investment climate in the country is favorable. He stated that Chinese companies can invest in various economic sectors, particularly in the mining and energy sectors.
The Chairman of the Chamber added that the Chamber of Commerce is making efforts to establish a large joint-stock company for the purpose of building oil refineries in Afghanistan. In this regard, comprehensive discussions were held with Chinese experts who have extensive experience in oil refinery construction in China on the technical and structural aspects of the project.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Chinese experts invited the Chairman of the Chamber to visit their company in China to hold detailed discussions and exchange views on the refinery’s plan and design.

The meeting, chaired by Mr. Alhaj Sayed Karim Hashemi, Chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment(ACCI), focused on coordination and improvement of the work of the said committee, with participants exchanging views and opinions.
It is worth mentioning that earlier, the Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Pakistan had proposed negotiations with the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment in order to resolve trade and transit-related challenges between the two countries, including the reopening of trade routes. This proposal was welcomed by the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, and several online meetings were subsequently held for this purpose.
Following online meetings held on 30.12.2025 and 04.01.2026 between the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment and the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Pakistani side requested the formation of seven-member committees from both sides. This request was approved by the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment.
As a first step, the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry officially introduced the members of its committee to the Afghan side. Subsequently, the members of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment’s committee were also officially introduced to Pakistan.
It was agreed that both sides would hold a meeting of the seven-member committees in the zero point area along the imaginary border (Torkham) on Tuesday, 06.01.2026. However, the Pakistani side expressed apologies and requested that the meeting be postponed to Thursday, 08.01.2026. To date, no confirmation or update has been received from the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry regarding participation in the proposed meeting.

Mr. Sayed Karim Hashemi, Chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment met with Dr. Zalmay Khalilzad, the former Special Envoy of the United States for Afghanistan, in Kabul.
During the meeting, they discussed commercial, economic, and banking challenges.
The issue of Afghanistan’s frozen assets was also addressed.
In conclusion, Dr. Khalilzad expressed his commitment to cooperate in resolving the issues that were discussed.

This online meeting, organized to reopen border ports, establish a specialized committee, and resolve trade-related problems between the two countries, was attended by Mr. Alhaj Sayed Karim Hashemi, Chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment(ACCI). He described the closure of ports as harmful to the trade and economy of both Afghanistan and Pakistan and emphasized reopening them through cooperation between the chambers of both countries.
He added that if the Government of Pakistan has delegated the authority to reopen the ports to the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Afghan side is also ready to proceed with reopening them.
Mr. Hashemi agreed to the proposal of forming a 12-member joint committee suggested by the Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry to resolve trade issues, resume the transportation of halted consignments, and adopt preventive measures to avoid similar situations in the future. He added that discussions would be held with the Afghan government to implement these decisions.
Mr. Atif Ikram Sheikh, President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, stated that the closure of ports between the two countries has negatively affected trade, particularly Pakistan’s exports. He noted that, as a first step, containers stranded across the border carrying Afghan commercial goods would be allowed entry.
Additionally, the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment proposed that the next joint meeting—comprising six representatives from the Pakistan Chamber and six from the Afghanistan Chamber—be held next week in Jalalabad to facilitate the reopening of ports. This proposal was accepted by the Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment, several deputy heads, board members, heads of provincial chambers, and prominent Afghan traders. On the Pakistani side, the President of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, along with heads of chambers from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Quetta, North Waziristan, and Kurram, participated in the meeting.

Mr. Alhaj Sayed Karim Hashemi, Chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI), met with Mr. Zhao Xing, Ambassador of China to Afghanistan, at the Office of the Chairman of the Chamber. During the meeting, discussions were held on expanding trade and economic relations and exploring available investment opportunities between Afghanistan and China.

Mr. Hashemi, while welcoming Mr. Zhao Xing and his accompanying delegation, described the trade and economic relations between the two countries as having steadily improved over the years.
He emphasized the need for enhanced cooperation between the Chamber and the Chinese Embassy in encouraging traders to engage in joint investments, removing obstacles to trade, and creating trade facilitation measures. He highlighted China’s important role in regional economic development and its support for major infrastructure projects in Afghanistan, and called on the Ambassador to encourage Chinese traders to engage in technical cooperation and joint investment with Afghan traders, particularly in the establishment of an oil refinery and an iron-smelting factory in Afghanistan.

Mr. Zhao Xing, expressing his pleasure at the meeting, reaffirmed the commitment of China to strengthening economic and trade cooperation with Afghanistan. He assured that the Chinese Embassy in Kabul is ready to cooperate in facilitating trade relations and encouraging Chinese investors to undertake joint investments with Afghanistan’s private sector.

The meeting was also attended by the following respected individuals: Gulbahar Habibi, Deputy for Trade Affairs, and Mohammad Yousuf Yousofi and Zabihullah Samim, members of the Board of Directors of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment.

This online meeting was held with the aim of permanently reopening the trade and transit ports between the two sides under all circumstances, strengthening mutual cooperation, establishing coordinated mechanisms to resolve trade-related problems, and effectively utilizing existing capacities to expand economic relations between the two countries.

From the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI), Mr. Alhaj Sayed Karim Hashemi, Chairman of the Chamber, along with members of the Board of Directors, heads of provincial chambers, and a number of prominent traders of the country participated in the meeting.

From the Pakistani side, Sheikh Atif Tanveer, Chairman of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, along with several heads of chambers of commerce and industry from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Quetta, North Waziristan, and Kurram, were also present.

Mr. Hashemi described the closure of the trade and transit ports as harmful to the trade and economies of both neighboring countries, as well as to the wider region.

He added that, since the ports have been closed by the Government of Pakistan, he requested the Chairman of the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry to share the concerns of the private sectors of both countries with senior government officials and urge them to ensure the permanent reopening of the trade and transit ports under all circumstances.

He described traders as ambassadors of peace between nations and called upon them to play an active role in improving trade relations between the two countries.

Mr. Tanveer referred to the government and people of Afghanistan as brothers and emphasized the need for organizing multiple meetings aimed at reopening the trade and transit ports and resolving the challenges faced by the private sectors of both countries.

He assured his full cooperation in conveying traders’ concerns to senior officials of the Government of Pakistan.
