Mr. Sayed Karim Hashemi, Chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment held an online meeting with Mr. Dmitry Antonov, Chairman of the Russian Business Council for Cooperation with Afghanistan to discuss the expansion of economic and trade relations, investment opportunities, and the development of transit routes between the two countries.
The Chairman of ACCI highlighted Afghanistan’s export capacities and investment opportunities and emphasized the importance of strengthening practical cooperation between the private sectors of the two countries in agriculture, mining, energy, infrastructure, oil and gas, industry and medical equipment.
The two sides discussed the establishment of a joint Afghanistan–Russia technical committee and a joint business council between the chambers of commerce of the two countries to identify investment opportunities, address logistical and transit challenges and accelerate the implementation of joint projects. The establishment of banking facilities, facilitation of business visa issuance and development of transit routes connecting Afghanistan, Central Asia and Russia were also among the key topics discussed.
Mr. Antonov expressed Russia’s readiness to expand cooperation and investment in Afghanistan in areas including agriculture, chemical fertilizers, geology and mineral processing, energy, oil refining, industrial and agricultural machinery, transportation and railway equipment and infrastructure projects.
At the conclusion, both sides emphasized strengthening direct connections between traders and investors of the two countries and discussed the participation of Russian traders and investors in the 5th Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) National and International Exhibition.
The meeting was also attended by Mr. Faiz Ahmad Khawafi, Deputy for Provincial Affairs of ACCI; Mr. Hamidullah Habibi, Member of the ACCI Board of Directors and Mr. Ahmad Shakeel Hazim, Deputy for Policy and Technical Affairs of the Executive Directorate.
