Meeting of the Chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment with the Head of UNAMA Political Affairs

Mr. Alhaj Sayed Karim Hashemi, Chairman of the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment (ACCI), met with Mr. Scott Smith, Head of the Political Affairs Section of UNAMA, and Mr. Carol, responsible for UNAMA’s economic relations, at the ACCI main office. They discussed the current situation of the private sector and investment opportunities in Afghanistan.

Mr. Smith assured ACCI of UNAMA’s full support for the private sector, particularly in assisting small and medium-sized enterprises. He also requested Mr. Hashemi to share ACCI’s latest achievements regarding the reopening of trade routes between Afghanistan and Pakistan, as well as alternative routes developed over the past few months, so that necessary measures could be taken in coordination with international organizations.

Mr. Hashemi provided detailed information about recent online meetings held at the request of UNAMA, between the Afghanistan Chamber of Commerce and Investment and the Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry, aimed at reopening trade routes. He emphasized that the closure of the routes by Pakistan has negatively affected the economies and private sectors of both countries. He further stressed that despite banking sanctions and the lack of transit facilities, Afghanistan’s private sector has managed to continue trade with regional countries through alternative routes, and there has been no shortage of food commodities in Afghan markets.

The meeting was also attended by Mr. Arian Zalgai Azimi, Deputy of Investment, Mr. Abdulzohoor Mudaber, ACCI Advisor, and Mr. Abdul Matin Ghalib, Head of the International Relations Department of the Executive Committee.
