ACCI delegation visits ICC and Lyon CCI and Afghanistan Embassy in France

Mr. Khan Jan Alokozai the Senior Vice-Chairman and Mr. Abdul Qadir Bahman the Deputy CEO of ACCI traveled to France to meet with Afghanistan Embassy, International Chamber of Commerce (ICCI) in and Lyon Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

All the meetings were also attended by Mr. Ghulam Nabi Habibi, Mr. Yama Akbar and Mr. Hamed Mustafa, the leadership of the ACCI’s Office in France.

First, the delegation visited the Afghanistan Embassy in Paris and met with Mr Amaani, the Acting Ambassador and other senior officials of the embassy on 22nd July 2015. The meeting focused on bilateral economic cooperation in the areas of import, export and investment between Afghanistan and France and the ways how to improve it.

The ACCI delegation highlighted the business opportunities in Afghanistan and France and informed the embassy about the official establishment and inauguration of ACCI office in France. “The ACCI France Office will be a bridge between France and Afghanistan business communities and all tasks will be done in cooperation with Afghanistan Embassy in Paris“ said Mr Alokozai.

The Afghanistan Embassy also emphasized on improvement of the economic cooperation between France and Afghanistan and through encouraging French investments in different sectors to Afghanistan. It was observed by both side that, the total trade volume between two countries is not commensurate despite the existence potential opportunities. Both agreed to work together for boosting the trade and economic cooperation between two countries.

“As the ACCI France Office is in the initial phase and it needs more support and cooperation, so we kindly request from the embassy to provide an office space for the the ACCI Office within the compound of the embassy “said Mr. Bahman

Both side agreed to, coordinate the issue through Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan and after receiving the official note from MoFA, then will surely provide an office space for this purpose.

Meeting with ICC on 23 July 2015:

Second, ACCI delegation visited International Chamber of Commerce on 23 July in Paris. From ICC and WCF, Mr. John Danilovich, ICC Secretary General, Mr. Phillip Kucharski, ICC Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Peter Mihok, Chair of ICC World Chambers Federation, Mr. Anthony Parks, ICC WCF Director and other officials attended the meeting.

The ICC Leadership welcomed the ACCI delegation and expressed their gratitude for the wonderful arrangement of the Afghanistan business delegation who attended the 9th World Chambers Congress held on 10 – 12 June 2015 in Turin Italy.

The ACCI delegation highlighted challenges and opportunities in Afghanistan and focused on role of the Afghanistan private sector in economic development of the country. The ACCI officials informed ICC regarding the recently establishment of Afghanistan Center for commercial Dispute Resolution (ACDR) under the umbrella of ACCI.

The ICC leadership expressed and offered their full support and cooperation with ACCI and ACDR. ICC will assist ACDR for drafting any kind of rules, procedures, policies of arbitration and mediation for ACDR. They provided the hard copies of the documents for arbitration and mediation use by ACDR.

ACCI is going to nominate the experts from Afghan business community to attend the 17th Sector Policy Commission Meetings which regularly are organized in Europe.

The meeting followed by the presentations and open discussion in the following areas:

  1. ICC Policy Commissions and Business Practices
  2. ICC National Committees
  3. ICC Court of Arbitration

Meeting with Lyon CCI and Afghanistan Business Community in Lyon on 24 – 25 July 2015:

Third, ACCI delegation visited Lyon Chamber of Commerce and Industry for the first time on 24 July in Lyon CCI headquarter

From Lyon CCI, Mr. Emmanuel Imberton, President of Lyon CCI, Mr. Bruno Masurel, Head of International Devesion of Lyon CCI, Mr. Manan Atchekzai, Board Member of Lyon CCI and other officials from the chamber attended the meeting. The meeting was also attended by the officials from SME Federation of Lyon and other related business association.

The meeting focused on bilateral economic cooperation in the areas of import, export and investment between Afghanistan and Lyon France and the ways how to improve it. The ACCI delegation highlighted the business opportunities in Afghanistan and France and invited the Lyon investors to travel to Afghanistan. The Lyon CCI leadership also emphasized on improvement of the economic cooperation between Lyon and Afghanistan and focused on how to encourage Lyon investments in different sectors to Afghanistan. It was observed by both side that, the total trade volume between two countries is not commensurate despite the existence potential opportunities. Both parties agreed to work together for boosting the trade and economic cooperation by arranging the business to business conference in Lyon and in Kabul in the coming months. Both parties agreed to sign a cooperation agreement during the B2B conference will be held in Lyon in the coming months, and initial works will be done before the event.
